Lady Dogs advance to Sweet 16

The Mary Persons softball team continues to shatter records. The Lady Bulldogs edged past Perry Thursday, 3-0, to advance to round two of the AAA softball playoffs. This is the team's first trip to the Sweet 16 in school history. The win improved their record to 21-9, another school record for most wins in a season, and they're not done yet.
Megan Williams pitched the complete game striking out 7 and pitching a 4 hitter to break the school record for most wins in a season by a pitcher.
In the game Perry attacked first loading the bases with no outs in the 2nd inning. The Lady Bulldogs defense stepped it up, not allowing Perry, to score to keep the game 0-0. In the top of the third, Sarah Bennett led off with a double and Chandler Williams followed with another double to score the games first run. Lauren Camp followed with a single to increase the lead to 2-0. In the bottom of the 6th, Perry had runners at 1st and 2nd with 1 out when Perry hit a groundball to Taylor Penn at third who touched 3rd and threw across to 1st to get the double play to shut down any threats. Just for insurance in the top of the 7th, Marleigh Dennis started the inning off with a double and came around to score off hits from Asia Buckner and Sarah Bennett.

The ladies will travel to Columbus to face Northside High School of Columbus Friday at 5 and 7 p.m. This is a best two of three series. If necessary, game three will be played on Saturday.
Northside, Columbus has an overall record of 14-12 and finished third in region 2AAA. Northside, Columbus beat Richmond Hill (2nd, 3AAA) in two straight games earlier this week in round one.

The Lady Bulldogs faced off against #4 in the state and region champions, the Perry Lady Panthers.  The Lady Bulldogs rallied to win game one, 7-6.  Pitcher Megan Williams picked up the win, tying the school record for wins in a season with 12.
In the second game, the Lady Panthers came out swinging, scoring 5 in the 1st inning.  The Lady Bulldogs fought back but fell short 10-3.

Game 3 was scheduled for today, but due to the weather, will be played Thursday at 6 p.m. at Perry High School. The winner of that game will face Northside, Columbus in round two beginning Friday for a best two of three series.

MP stomps Eagles Landing, 45-13

OK, so Eagles Landing is the worst team in the region..... it was still a win and the Bulldogs enjoyed every minute of it. Several second and third string players got a chance to play and no one was seriously injured for once. For a complete wrap up of the game, see the next edition of the Reporter on newsstands Wednesday.
