Do the Dogs have what it takes?

The start of each new football season brings new hope for a winning year. The Bulldogs improved in 2007, that’s a fact. After a dismal 2006 (4-6) and no post-season play, the faithful Bulldog fans were treated to a winning season in 2007 (7-4).

But, the fans still want more.
MP fans are relentless and will never be satisfied with anything less than another state championship.

Now it’s 2008. If there has been a year that should be ours in recent years, this could be it. The Bulldogs boast the most returning starters in years. The team is loaded with seniors. Almost every player projected to start has seen a significant amount playing time. The Dogs have the talent. They have size. The offensive line is huge!
But…… Do they have the passion? Do they have the umph to push themselves that extra mile?
Talent is great. Skills are important. Practice is essential. But, in football, the players cannot completely rely on talent, skills and experience. They must come to play each and every time the ball is snapped. There is no room for complacence. That was evident in Washington County.
The Bulldogs simply did not show up…. period. Was their performance in WACO a reflection of their summer practices? Let’s hope not. They didn’t execute. They didn’t have a hustle bone in their collective bodies. There was no sense of urgency.
The Bulldogs need to get mad. They need to stay mad for the next three months. They need to treat every game like it’s do or die. The season is full of unfamiliar teams. The Bulldogs cannot rely on anything but their own skills, talent, experience, execution and drive to get the job done.

The Bulldogs seem to think they can goof around and then show up at the last minute and win. From what I've seen in practices, they are in for a rude awakening when Morgan County comes to town Friday. Everyone thinks they got an easy schedule, but there are several teams that can beat them and WILL beat them if they don't get it together and take this season season seriously. It's about time that the Bulldogs stopped settling for being mediocre.

I agree that the Dawgs don't seem pumped up! What has happened to our school and its spirit and loyalty? Maybe this spirit should start with the fans. Lets get behind the boys and support them all the way!! GO DAWGS!!

Wow, I did not know the coaches played on Friday nights. It is always easier to blame the coach or teacher than the kid sitting across the dinner table from you.

Well we won this past Friday night but it wasn't pretty. With an injury on the first play, it was ugly from the get go. I remember at least 3 interceptions and 4 fumbles throughout the game. Morgan County got all their points from our mistakes. Unfortunately Coleman's passing was more cold than hot. But the first game is behind us, here's to hoping game two verses Lamar will go better.
